As an importer of various Lab Equipment, we have been involved in the supply of Microscopes and of Industrial equipment for the past 3+ decades
As the founder of my current business Micro Met Scientific cc I personally have had a long career, firstly as an employee for a company called Cooke, Troughton and Simms in South Africa my employment with them commenced in1971 the Companies name was then changed to “Vickers Instruments” which I worked for in total some 14 years, it was a British based company that manufactured all kinds of Microscopes Compound, Stereo Microscopes and Surveying Equipment which was located in Haxby Road , York , England.
Cooke, Troughton and Simms, were involved with microscope design in the very early to mid-1900 and manufacture of all kinds of Optical Microscopes I was fortunate enough to have gone to England for factory training as I was a Fitter and Turner by trade and was originally employed by Cooke, Troughton and Simms as an Instrument Maker / Repairer I somehow ended up in sales perhaps because of my outgoing personality I was moved from the Workshop Environment to the Sales Office and the rest is history.
I have had a good deal of experience in all fields of Microscopy which include Industrial Metallurgical Microscopes and fully understand all the lighting techniques used in this field namely, brightfield darkground Normaski Interference, or otherwise known as DIC together with polarised light. I was also involved with Petrographic and Interference Microscopy, so as you will understand I have a vast knowledge of the techniques and where to market the various products.
After leaving Vickers Instruments I formed a business with a partner called Testing Measuring and Investigation Equipment Company which operated for some two years also in supply of Microscopes and of Industrial equipment.
On the 31 May 1988 I started Micro Met Scientific cc traded as importers and suppliers of microscopes and metallurgical equipment. We represented Buehler UK, USA and Germany for 11 years, which is one of the major manufacturers and suppliers of Metallurgical Equipment in the world we now represent METKON as can been seen in our website https://micrometscientific.co.za we then started our own Manufacture of Metallurgical equipment back in around the year 2000 the manufacturing Company is called Metcon Africa Manufacturing and we produce a range of Cut Off Machines, Grinder Polishers and Auto Grinding / Polishing Heads
For 8-9 years we supplied specialised software from three German Suppliers namely Archive for Images, Aquinto and DHS Solutions that specialized in Digital Archiving and Image Analysis of materials utilizing digital cameras connected to a scanning electron microscope, light microscope, photographic macro stands and stereo microscopes which could be used as the image source.
We have acted as a supplier for De Winter Optical since 2009 which is a 13 year association I am happy to announce that in 2022 we have a formal business association with Dewinter and the founding member of Dewinter Mr R Lutra.
